Healthy Youth Program

The ‘Healthy Youth’ program aims to increase GP access for young people living in the Goldfields. This program is a primary intervention project aiming to reduce the prevalence of lifestyle related health conditions among young people by encouraging them to view GPs as their primary health resource.

Taste cooking - A four week nutrition education program and basic cooking class for at risk or disadvantaged young people. Taste provides practical cooking experience with nutrition education and takes place at local youth services and drop in centres within Kalgoorlie - Boulder and in remote communities. The program consists of four themes, ‘Nutrition- what  is it?, ‘Move More, Eat Well, Feel Better’, ‘Body Image’ and ‘Snacks on the Run’.

Youth Health Clinic - The clinic is a Medicare bulk billing outreach clinic for young people living in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The clinic is based at the Salvation Army’s Crossroads West, a youth crisis accommodation facility and will be available for young people aged 15 to 25 years.  The location of GP in a youth facility is an effective way to reduce access related barriers for young people.
