GoldHealth Network

The Goldfields Esperance GP Network has recently been awarded funding through the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) to build upon the GoldHealth Network infrastructure by developing a Regional Shared Electronic Health Record (RSEHR).

The RSEHR will focus on providing an important service to patients in the community by allowing GPs to ‘share’ critical clinical information with other health professionals on a patient’s care team in a secure fashion, with the patient’s consent.

To participate in this initiative, the patient will need to sign a consent form to enable certain critical information such as allergies, current medications and current conditions to be ‘shared’ amongst other health professionals.  It is completely voluntary for the patient to participate in the Project and they choose which health professionals can view their critical information.  (This is called an ‘opt-in’ solution.)

This new application for the will be offered to ALL GoldHealth Network members including General Practices, Specialists, Hospitals and Allied Health Professionals via a secure web application at no additional cost.

It is proposed at this stage that the RSEHR will consist of ‘event summaries’ of the patients visit to the clinician and will include the following information;

  • Patient Demographics (Name, DOB, Address, contact telephone number, Medicare Number)
  • Copy of the signed consent form
  • List and details of the Care Team
  • Primary GP/Practice
  • Current Diagnosis
  • Current prescribed medications
  • Allergies
  • History of Diagnoses (including dates)
  • Prescribing History
  • Family Clinical History
  • Results; Pathology (via the GP), e-Discharge reports

The RSEHR solution is currently being developed and the GEGPN will be seeking input and support from all GoldHealth participants to refine the solution so that it meets their requirements.  During the development stage particularly close attention will be given to issues around security and patient privacy.

The Project is funded by DoHA for a period of 12 months which will involve the development and implementation phases of the Project.  During this time the overall impact of the application will be evaluated by the Rural Clinical School who will be working in partnership with the GEGPN.

The GEGPN views the RSEHR as the ‘next step’ for the GoldHealth Network and a major contributor to the future sustainability of the Network. It will add value to the existing Network for the participating Practices, Specialists, Hospitals and other health professionals, as well as having a positive impact on the health of residents in the Goldfields region.
