The Department of Health & Ageing as part of the MedicarePlus Aged Care Initiative engaged with the Australian Divisions of General Practice to improve access to appropriate medical care for all aged care residents. Our 3 year funding for this program has come to an end as at 30 June 2008.
The Aged Care Panel was a collaboration between General Practitioners, Residential Aged Care Facilities and other Allied Health Service Providers to enhance and strengthen their existing relationship. The Panel’s initiative was to ensure that the service received by RACF patients from General Practitioners and other Allied Health Service Providers was of a higher standard and constantly improved where possible.
The Aged Care Panel had made vast improvements in this area and GEGPN would like to maintain the panel idea for further networking opportunities.
There is a new Aged Care Initiative to be facilitated by the Network, although details have yet to be released.
