Healthy Youth Program
The Youth Health Program is designed to increase awareness of General Practitioners and other health services which are available to youth between the ages of 12 and 25 in the Goldfields and Esperance Region. This is achieved by providing up to date, relevant information to the young people by providing innovative sessions that contain a strong health care message.
Body Image Sessions Aim to support youth to establish realistic expectations of themselves and the appearance of their bodies.
Smoking and Risk of Alcohol and Drug Misuse Sessions Designed to assist youth to clearly identify the mental and physical health risks associated with smoking, alcohol and drug addiction.
Mental Health Sessions Help build self-esteem and confidence tackling issues such as self-talk (internal dialogue), stress, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and other prominent mental health issues affecting young people.
Coping with Change Sessions Provide youth with sound knowledge in relation to school transitions, legal ages of consent, at which age they can obtain their own Medicare card and who they can talk to about changes with their bodies. These sessions also cover the laws in relation to their age when consulting a GP or other health professional including the circumstances surrounding client confidentiality and mandatory reporting.
Peer Pressure Sessions Aide youth in comprehending a better understanding of the unrealistic expectations set by media. This encourages youth to think and act for themselves and not submit to the influence of the media, celebrities and their peers.
Healthy Relationships Sessions Engage youth in conversations about relationships to identify the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. The sessions will demonstrate how to form healthy relationships and how to best deal with an unwanted unhealthy relationship.
In order to provide a comprehensive source of information to young people, an effective working relationship has been established between multiple health professionals.
